LANDFILLS AND SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANTS
Landfill gas is composed mainly of methane and carbon dioxide produced through the natural process of decomposition of organic waste materials. To reduce CO2 emissions, modernized landfills use this type of gas as a renewable fuel for powering specially configured CATERPILLAR® gas gensets. Also, many sewage treatment plants use gas resulting from the fermentation of waste water as an alternative fuel to power the CAT® gas gensets, which provide the unit with both electricity and heat. The process of waste disposal may then become a source of free fuel for the CAT® cogeneration systems, providing a source of additional revenue for the landfill or sewage treatment plants.
