Thanks to their flexibility and high power density, gas turbines are perfectly suited for manufacturing facilities and district heating systems. How do they work\u2014and why are they increasingly replacing traditional solutions?<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<h2>How does it work?<\/h2>\n<p>At the heart of every turbine is the rotor. Energy production is based on the Brayton\u2013Joule thermodynamic cycle and takes place in three main stages:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Compression:<\/strong> Air enters a multistage compressor, where its pressure and temperature increase.<br \/>\n<strong>Combustion:<\/strong> In the combustion chamber, the compressed air mixes with fuel (e.g., natural gas), causing ignition.<br \/>\n<strong>Expansion:<\/strong> Hot exhaust gases flow at high speed through the turbine blades, driving the shaft connected to an electrical generator.<\/p>\n<p>Importantly, modern turbines (e.g., Solar Turbines) can reach full power within just a few minutes, making them an excellent peak-load and balancing resource.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h2>Gas turbine or gas engine? A race car vs. a truck<\/h2>\n<p>Questions about the differences between these technologies are common. The simplest explanation is through an automotive analogy:<\/p>\n<p><strong>A gas turbine is like a race car:<\/strong><br \/>\nLightweight, compact, and capable of delivering very high power under heavy loads. It operates on a continuous-flow principle, has fewer moving parts, and offers greater fuel flexibility (including hydrogen).<\/p>\n<p><strong>A gas engine is like a truck:<\/strong><br \/>\nHeavier, robust, and operating in a cyclic (piston-based) manner. It performs extremely well where high efficiency is required even at lower, variable loads.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h2>Industry loves cogeneration<\/h2>\n<p>One of the biggest advantages of turbines is their ability to operate in combined heat and power (CHP) systems. Instead of being released into the atmosphere, hot exhaust gases are used to produce process steam, hot water, or\u2014more innovatively\u2014directly in drying processes.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, total system efficiency can exceed <strong>80%<\/strong>, and the facility gains energy independence.<\/p>\n<p>As the exclusive distributor of Caterpillar and Solar Turbines in Poland, Eneria integrates these technologies with renewable energy sources. We build hybrid systems in which the turbine stabilizes the operation of photovoltaic panels and energy storage, ensuring uninterrupted power supply regardless of weather conditions.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h5><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Here are two examples of our recent projects:<\/span><\/h5>\n<h5><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">1. Cerrad Starachowice \u2013 Innovation in ceramics<\/span><\/h5>\n<p>At the Cerrad factory, we implemented a <strong>Solar Taurus 60<\/strong> gas turbine with an output of <strong>5 MW<\/strong>\u2014a pioneering solution in the Polish ceramics industry. The uniqueness lies in directing clean exhaust gases directly to spray dryers used in ceramic powder production.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The results?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Coverage of <strong>100%<\/strong> of the plant\u2019s heat demand<\/li>\n<li><strong>33,000 tons<\/strong> of CO\u2082 emissions reduced annually<\/li>\n<li>System efficiency above <strong>80%<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Ma-JoEMEimU\" width=\"560\" height=\"314\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div>\n<h5><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">2. ECO Opole \u2013 Modernizing for the city<\/span><\/h5>\n<p>We are preparing to build a new turboset for Energetyka Cieplna Opolszczyzny. The new <strong>8 MWe<\/strong> unit will replace a turbine that has been in operation for 27 years. The investment, worth nearly <strong>PLN 60 million<\/strong>, will launch at full scale in 2026, providing stable heat supplies for Opole residents while meeting the latest environmental standards.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h2>Summary<\/h2>\n<p>Gas turbines today are more than just engines\u2014they are a bridge to decarbonization.
