The Municipal Heat and Power Utility<\/b> (PEC) in Lubart\u00f3w<\/b>, a company with almost 50 years of tradition, is entering a new era. This isn’t just about another minor modernization, but a true revolution<\/b> aimed not only at reducing so-called low emissions but also at achieving independence from traditional coal-based heat sources<\/b>. This is a crucial step towards a sustainable future for the entire city.<\/p>\n

The Key to Success: Cogeneration and Renewable Energy Sources<\/h3>\n

In 2022, PEC Lubart\u00f3w secured solid financial support from the European Economic Area (EEA) and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism funds, which became the driving force behind the project. The main goal was the implementation of high-efficiency cogeneration<\/b> and Renewable Energy Sources (RES)<\/b> to significantly reduce heat production from coal-fired boilers.<\/p>\n

Eneria<\/b> was chosen to execute this ambitious plan. As the President of PEC Lubart\u00f3w, Lech Kliza<\/b>, emphasizes, the decision was well-considered: “We were looking for a solution that would not only reduce coal consumption but also bring additional benefits\u2014ecological, financial, and cost-saving.”<\/p>\n

Thanks to this investment, heat production from the new cogeneration installation will cover as much as 53% of the previous coal-based production<\/b>. The total cost of the project amounted to PLN 23.3 million<\/b>, of which nearly PLN 6.9 million<\/b> came from EU funds, representing huge support.<\/p>\n

\n

Innovative Solutions from Eneria<\/h3>\n

Eneria supplied four containerized CAT CG170B-12 cogeneration units<\/b>, based on gas engines. As Micha\u0142 Kruszewski, Project Manager at Eneria<\/b>, explains, these units collectively generate 4.8 MWe of electrical power<\/b> and approximately 5.2 MWt of thermal power<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Eneria\u2019s task was not just to install the equipment, but also to design and commission the entire system, which is now fully operational. The projected annual heat production is 74,500 GJ<\/b>, and electrical energy production is 21,900 MWh<\/b>. Most importantly, the total system efficiency is an impressive 82.5%<\/b>.<\/p>\n

The new technology will significantly reduce CO<\/span>2<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u200b<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> emissions, which directly translates into better air quality for the residents of Lubart\u00f3w.<\/p>\n

\n

Benefits for Residents and the Company<\/h3>\n

The project is more than just a boiler house upgrade. PEC Lubart\u00f3w is also expanding its heating network, which will allow for the elimination of individual low-emission sources (the so-called “smokers”) and the connection of another 14 single-family houses<\/b> to the network.<\/p>\n

President Kliza notes that the investment creates new opportunities for the company: “We have opened a second source of revenue<\/b>. Until now, the company relied on heat; now, electricity is becoming equally important.” As a result, PEC Lubart\u00f3w forecasts an increase in annual revenues from the current PLN 8-11 million to as much as PLN 20 million<\/b>.<\/p>\n

The installation of the equipment was completed in 2023, and the operating permit was issued on April 23, 2024.<\/p>\n
