The step in this direction is dictated by many factors: from improved efficiency and economic benefits to the well-being of future generations and environmental concerns.<\/p>\n<p>It is precisely for the sake of clean air in the city that the authorities of the Skierniewice heating plant have taken measures to reduce the share of coal fuel in the production of thermal energy.<\/p>\n<p>One such measure was just the expansion of the Skierniewice heating plant with a high-efficiency cogeneration unit based on CAT gas engines.<\/p>\n<p>Two years ago, Energetyka Cieplna decided to implement a project to build a combined heat and power plant. After the revitalisation, the Skierniewice heating plant was transformed into a CHP plant and was given the ability to generate electricity, thus meeting local demand.<\/p>\n<p>The decision to build the cogeneration unit, made in 2020, involved delivery by Eneria of four CAT <a href=\"https:\/\/eneria.pl\/en\/product\/g3516h\/\">G3516H<\/a> series gas-fired generators, powered by high-methane natural gas, with a total capacity of 8 MWt. Each of the four CHP units supplies 2 MW of heat and 2 MW of electricity, with energy available all year round to more than 25,000 customers.<\/p>\n<div class=\"flex-video\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Uk\u0142ady kogeneracyjne dla Energetyki Cieplnej Skierniewice\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/30Zvf6vbQno?start=67&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Thanks to the investment, the plant can generate 8 MW of electricity for its own use, which will be sold back to the local power grid if there is a surplus. It is worth noting that with the use of a modern CHP system, it is possible to secure the supply of utilities necessary for heat production while maintaining up to 95% efficiency of the system.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to supplying generators for the Skierniewice CHP plant, Eneria also routed the complex heat recovery system and installed the starting equipment along with silencers and control and exhaust components.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Investment in cogeneration<\/strong> is an economically justified investment, but also an investment in clean air. The European Union&#8217;s announced climate policy calls for a net 55% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030. To make this goal achievable, over EUR 700 billion will be provided in the coming years to improve energy efficiency. For many sectors &#8211; including the heating industry &#8211; investment in cogeneration will allow achieving these ambitious goals while minimising harmful environmental impacts. Estimates indicate that switching fuel from coal to gas will reduce CO2 emissions by more than 52,000 tonnes, which will translate into both air quality and cost savings.<\/p>\n<p>The thing about crises is that they pass over time. Despite many difficulties and disturbances in the energy market, consistent diversification will allow us to overcome them.
